The leader in renewable energies and wind farms is to be found in fourteen countries. In 2008 ACCIONA Energy increased its installed capacity in renewables by 19.6% and stepped up annual production by 13.7%.
In 2008 ACCIONA Energy also enjoyed growth abroad. Its presence overseas clearly exceeds its domestic presence. Today its is to be found with its own assets in 12 countries -14 countries in all if we include facilities built for third parties - and has a number of ongoing projects in key strategic countries for ACCIONA.
Ninety three percent of operations were wind power and 7% were solar photovoltaic. In 2008 ACCIONA installed new wind farms in the USA and increased its presence significantly in Australia and Portugal as well as making inroads in renewables in South Korea and Mexico.
At year-end 2008, ACCIONA was building 17 wind farms, 2 solar thermal plants and two biomass plants, and was in the commissioning phase of its second bio-diesel plant in Spain.
The sell-off of ACCIONA's 25% stake in Endesa, to Enel, in February 2009 brought with it a 44% increase in the Group's renewables potential and enabled it to consolidate its position as the world's number two renewables company.
